What exactly is God's Standard? I believe God's word is the ultimate and final authority. We as Christians should strive to live by His Word daily. If there is something we are unsure about...go to the Word of God. It gives us instruction. So what is God's standard? What is His stance on living a Christian life? How does He want us to live, interact, think? Lev. 20:7-8 "Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God. And you shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the Lord which sanctify you." Lev. 11:44-45 "I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves about on the ground. I am the Lord who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God, therefore be holy, because I am holy." These verses provide a key to understanding all the laws and regulations in Levitcus. God wanted his people to be holy (set apart, different, unique), just as He is holy. He knew they had only two options: to be separate and holy, or to compromise and become corrupt. Christians also are called to be holy (1 Peter 1:15-16). Like the Israelites, we should remain spiritually separate from the world's wickedness, even though unlike them, we rub shoulders with unbelievers every day. It is not an easy task to be holy in an unholy world, but God doesn't ask you to accomplish this on your own. Through the death of his son, he will "present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation" (Colossians 1:22). Our holy God expects us to imitate him by following his high moral standards. After people commit their lives to Christ, they usually still feel a pull back to their old ways. Peter tells us to be like our heavenly father-holy in everything we do. Holiness means being totally devoted or dedicated to God, set aside for his special use and set apart and different, not blending in with the crowd. (2 Corinthians 6:17) Our focus and priorities must be his. All this is in direct contrast to our old ways, We cannot become holy on our own, but God gives us his Holy Spirit to help us obey and t0 give us power to overcome sin. Don't use the excuse that you can't help slipping into sin. Call on God's power to free you from sin's grip.
What is God's Standard? God is Holy...point blank. I believe this is a message that God has placed on my heart. It has been on my heart for years. A lot of people will say that I am sheltered or that I've lived under a rock or whatever. They say this because I don't know secular artist or secular songs or other things. I'm sure if I wanted to listen to secular music I could. I have access to it, but I chose not to. It doesn't glorify God. I ask myself "Would Jesus listen to it? Would Jesus listen to songs that has filthy language in it or talks about sex and getting in bed with you, or talks about your body in a sexual way or whatever else they sing about. I don't know what they say because I don't listen to it. If it doesn't glorify God I don't want to listen to it. The artists that are singing these songs...what is their lifestyle like? Are they living for God? Are they glorifying God? Are they using their talents for the Lord? God created us to worship Him and Him alone. We are suppose to be separate from the world. If the world is listening to it, christians shouldn't be listening to it. If we are listening to it then we are no different from the world. We are suppose to dress differently, talk differently, think differently (Phil. 4:8).
God is calling us to be holy people...God help us all (myself included). I have compromised, but it is only by God's grace that He has kept me. Many of you...God has kept you as well. He has delivered you, saved you, healed you, provided for you, maybe there were many times you could have been dead, but if it wasn't for the hand of God upon your life...my, my, my. Where would you be? Now is the time to live for Him and praise Him and thank Him for saving you. I don't understand how people could sit on their butts and not acknowledge who God is. Clearly Satan has blinded the minds & eyes of people. God is all powerful, all knowing, omnipresent. He can turn you into a potato chip if He wanted to. And people today don't fear Him. A healthy fear that is. One day, God will come back in all of His Glory and every knee WILL bow and every tongue WILL confess that JESUS IS LORD!
All honor and glory to His name,
Gaynel
